چکیده
Introduction: Evaluation of water availability and land suitability for surface irrigation practice is crucial a country like Ethiopia whose livelihood highly dependent on seasonal rainfed agriculture, which susceptible to climate change has large population suffering from food insecurity. Methods: In this study, several factors, such as slope, use cover, rainfall, proximities (market centers, roads, rivers), soil factors (i.e., pH, organic carbon, cation exchange capacity, electrical conductivity, available storage drainage, depth, texture, type) were considered. The data entered analyzed using the GIS tool multicriteria analysis Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) determine suitable area in Chacha Watershed. Subsequently, CROPWAT was used check requirement dominant crops grown study watershed, while flow duration curve 90-percentile exceedance frequency monthly average streamflow carried out identify minimum River. Results Discussion: findings assessment revealed that 13336.5 ha (11.8%), 58357.4 (51.6%), 37588.1 (33.2 %), 3887.9 (3.4 %) lands found watershed are suitable, moderately marginally unsuitable irrigation, respectively. crop estimated be 7 l/s per hectare, at 87 can potentially irrigate about 9280 with an 10 days watering interval irrigation. However, currently irrigated 2159.8 implying existing quite limited though not limiting factor. Hence, government other concerned bodies should exhaustively work develop projects practices maximally utilize resources enhance agricultural productivity. return, it ameliorates livelihoods communities thereby helps ensure security watershed.

متن کاملImpact of Climate Change on Runoff in the Gilgel Abbay Watershed, the Upper Blue Nile Basin, Ethiopia
Hydrological assessment is critical to the successful implementation of adaption measures. In this study, projections of seven global circulation models (GCMs) associated with high and medium–low Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP 8.5 and RCP 4.5) for the period 2021–2040 and 2081–2100 were adopted to assess changes on runoffs in the Gilgel Abbay watershed, the upper Blue Nile basin. A ...
متن کاملHydrological Response to Climate Change for Gilgel Abay River, in the Lake Tana Basin - Upper Blue Nile Basin of Ethiopia
Climate change is likely to have severe effects on water availability in Ethiopia. The aim of the present study was to assess the impact of climate change on the Gilgel Abay River, Upper Blue Nile Basin. The Statistical Downscaling Tool (SDSM) was used to downscale the HadCM3 (Hadley centre Climate Model 3) Global Circulation Model (GCM) scenario data into finer scale resolution. The Soil and W...

BACKGROUND Bovine trypanosomosis is a serious constraint to agricultural production in extensive areas of Ethiopia. METHODOLOGY A cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the prevalence of bovine infection with trypanosomes and to identify the prevailed trypanosome species in three districts of the East Gojjam zone bordering the Blue Nile River from March 2005 to February 2006. Cattle...
متن کاملRegionalisation for lake level simulation – the case of Lake Tana in the Upper Blue Nile, Ethiopia
In this study lake levels of Lake Tana are simulated at daily time step by solving the water balance for all inflow and outflow processes. Since nearly 62% of the Lake Tana basin area is ungauged a regionalisation procedure is applied to estimate lake inflows from ungauged catchments. The procedure combines automated multi-objective calibration of a simple conceptual model and multiple regressi...
